1. The Best Locations for a Couples Photoshoot in London

London is genuinely one of the most photogenic cities on earth but not all locations are created equal. After shooting couples here for years, these are the places I return to again and again.

Westminster – Cinematic London at Its Best

Westminster is my first choice when couples want that iconic, cinematic feel – the kind of backdrop you’ve seen in films and on TV, instantly recognisable anywhere in the world. Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, the Thames – it’s all there. But the real secret is the archway beneath Westminster Bridge on the south side of the river, directly opposite Big Ben. It’s a subway passage that frames the tower perfectly, and most people walk straight past it. That single spot produces some of the most dramatic images I’ve ever taken.

The cinematic quality of Westminster is, genuinely, second to none in the world. Many of my couples  especially those visiting from abroad feel an emotional connection to this place before they’ve even arrived, because they’ve grown up seeing it on screen. That connection translates beautifully into photographs.

Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich – Elegance and History

For couples who love history and architecture, the Old Royal Naval College and Queen’s House in Greenwich is extraordinary. The classical symmetry, the painted ceilings, the sheer scale of it – it adds a rare kind of beauty and elegance to images that you simply cannot replicate anywhere else in London.

There’s a practical bonus too: Greenwich offers covered shooting spots that are genuinely stunning in their own right. On a grey or rainy London day, I can still deliver a set of images here that couples could never have dreamt of. That’s rare.

Tower Bridge – Iconic and Surprisingly Intimate

Tower Bridge is one of the most requested locations I get – and deservedly so. It is simply one of the most beautiful bridges in the world. The key is knowing where to go. The main path gets busy, but there’s a quiet spot on the northeast side, close to Tower Bridge Wharf Building, that most people never find. Calm, intimate, and a stunning view of the bridge – especially at sunset and golden hour. If you want Tower Bridge without the crowds, this is your spot.

2. What’s the Best Time of Day for a Couples Photoshoot?

Every photographer will tell you: shoot during golden hour. And yes – the warm, directional light just after sunrise or before sunset is genuinely beautiful. But it’s not the whole story, and it’s not always the right answer.

Here’s what actually matters when choosing your shoot time:

The location. Some covered spots – like the Naval College in Greenwich – work beautifully in the middle of the day. If we’re shooting somewhere like that, timing is less critical.

The season. Summer golden hour in London is around 9–9:30pm – perfect if you’re local and flexible, but impractical if you have an early flight. In autumn and winter, the low sun creates extraordinary light even at 4pm.

The crowds. Westminster and the South Bank can be genuinely hectic during the day. Going 45 minutes earlier or later can transform the experience entirely. Nervous couples are harder to photograph naturally.

Your itinerary. Many of the couples I photograph are visiting London for a stopover or a short stay. I always work around what works for them. A great photographer adapts.

3. How to Choose the Right Couples Photographer in London

This is where I see the most mistakes. Booking the wrong photographer for a couples shoot is a bigger risk than most people realise. Here’s what I’d tell my closest friends:

Don’t judge a portfolio by its highlights. Every photographer has a handful of great shots. The question is whether they can deliver quality consistently – across different locations, lighting conditions, and times of year. Look for range. If their entire portfolio is perfect-light golden hour and nothing else, be cautious.

Watch how they direct their clients. The difference between stiff, posed photos and natural, authentic images almost always comes down to how the photographer makes you feel. A good photographer guides you, makes you laugh, helps you forget you’re being photographed. Look for candid moments in their work.

Check their reviews – and read between the lines. Look for patterns: did clients feel relaxed? Did the photographer communicate well? Did they deliver on time? I’ve had couples come to me after being let down last minute by photographers who seemed credible on Instagram but had no track record of reliability. Professionalism matters just as much as artistic talent.

4. What Should You Wear for a London Couples Photoshoot?

What you wear can genuinely make or break your photos. The colour and style you choose should work with your location – a sharply tailored suit looks extraordinary against the classical architecture of Greenwich; it would look completely wrong on a beach. Think about the setting first, then the outfit.

A few practical guidelines:

  • Wear something you feel genuinely beautiful in. Confidence reads in photographs.
  • Coordinate, don’t match. Complementary tones look far more natural and flattering than identical outfits.
  • Avoid large logos or busy patterns – they distract from your faces and date photos quickly.
  • Dress for the temperature, not just the look. Cold and uncomfortable will show in your posture and your expression.

Wear something that makes you feel like the best version of yourselves. The rest follows from there.

5. What’s the Best Time of Year for a Couples Photoshoot in London?

Honestly? There isn’t one. Every season offers something genuinely different – and genuinely beautiful.

Spring brings blossom, pale skies, and soft light. If you want delicate, romantic imagery, April and May are hard to beat.

Summer offers long days and warmth. The flip side: London’s outdoor spaces are at their most crowded. Early morning shoots in summer can be extraordinary – quiet streets, clean light, the city almost to yourselves.

Autumn is my personal favourite. The light in October and November in Richmond Park – the sun low through the trees, orange foliage, golden tones everywhere – creates images that look almost otherworldly. There is nothing quite like an autumn golden hour in London.

Winter has its own magic. Bare trees, moody skies, quieter streets. Christmas lights in Covent Garden or Carnaby Street add an entirely different kind of romance. The cold keeps crowds down, which means more intimate, unhurried shoots.

A Storyteller’s Journey

From Conflict to Connection

The original story of becoming a wedding and Elopement photographer!

There was a time when my days were filled with stories of sorrow.
As a photojournalist, I stood witness to grief, to chaos, to the quiet ache of things falling apart. And somewhere along the way, that weight became too heavy to carry.

I realised I wasn’t just documenting pain—I was living in it.
And life… life is far too short for that.

So I made a choice.
To trade headlines for heartbeats.
To tell stories not of loss, but of love.
To capture not endings, but beginnings.

Now, I photograph people at their most alive—
In places that mean something, with people who mean everything.
The joy. The nerves. The stillness. The electricity. The way the light falls when you say,
'this is it, this is us'.

Because moments slip through us faster than we think.
Because time doesn’t pause, even for love.
But a photograph—an intentional, honest photograph—can hold it still.

And that’s what I’m here for.
To make art from your joy.
To help you slow down.
To honour what matters, and preserve it—beautifully, truthfully, forever.

Most couples book a pre-wedding photoshoot in London because their photographer suggested it. They imagine a nice set of portraits. Something to hang in the hallway. A trial run before the wedding day. But that is not why I love doing them, and it is not why the couples who have done one with me […]
